Area II: Plan Health Education/Promotion

After thoroughly assessing the needs, resources, and capacity for the health education program, it is then time to plan the program. A framework outlining the specific aspects and components of the program needs to be developed before the program is finally implemented. It is now time to connect with priority populations and anybody else involved in the planning process as they play an active role in effectiveness of the program. This also entails developing goals and measurable objectives, a vision or mission statement, and using the needs assessment results to identify the desired outcomes and expectations of the program. Next, a program strategy must be developed as the basis of the program. Employing evidence-based practices is a great way to incorporate the latest research-based materials into the program which helps with making critical decisions about the components, processes, and delivery of the program. Also, planning models need to be chosen that fit the health program which provide structure going forward. When it comes time to finally launch the program, developing a proposal for delivery by using models or theories would be best to guide the program. Timelines are also very useful to map out the program agenda and keep on track. In all stages of developing and implementing a health promotion program, it is smart to identify any factors that currently or could potentially hinder the effectiveness of the program.

The NWFCCC always involves priority populations, partners, and other stakeholders in the planning process of all activities and programs (2.1). We do this through voting via email or on our monthly meeting calls. Every fiscal year, the NWFCCC develops a strategic plan with four goal statements and supporting objectives to follow (2.2). The strategic plan is then shared with members and voted on so that everyone is in agreement on what the collaborative deems most important to achieve. As we select interventions within our program, we use evidence-based practices to guide our efforts for each activity implemented by the collaborative (2.3.3). We have also developed a timeline for the delivery of each goal and objective within our strategic plan (2.4.4) which is reflected in our updated communication plan.
