NCHEC Seven Areas of Responsibility
The National Commission of Health Education Credentialing (NCHEC) have developed Seven Areas of Responsibility which provide a framework for the knowledge and skills necessary by health education and health promotion specialists to practice. Within these areas, competencies and sub-competencies are included to further describe their various functions. It is imperative that health education and health promotion specialists become familiar and gain experience within these Seven Areas of Responsibility in order to apply effective strategies, appropriate health-related theories, and core competencies and sub-competencies when practicing and providing guidance to people.
The Seven Areas of Responsibility are as follows:
-
Area I: Assess Needs, Resources, and Capacity for Health Education/Promotion
-
Area II: Plan Health Education/Promotion
-
Area III: Implement Health Education/Promotion
-
Area IV: Conduct Evaluation and Research Related to Health Education/Promotion
-
Area V: Administer and Manage Health Education/Promotion
-
Area VI: Serve as a Health Education/Promotion Resource Person
-
Area VII: Communicate, Promote, and Advocate for Health, Health Education/Promotion, and the Profession
On the subsequent pages, I have summarized each Area of Responsibility and have described my experience in the applicable competencies and sub-competencies while working with my current organization, the Northwest Florida Cancer Control Collaborative (NWFCCC). I have also included artifacts corresponding with each area, displaying material I've updated, created, and used to contribute to various specific competencies and sub-competencies. Please take your time to review all areas to better familiarize yourself with my understanding and experience with the Seven Areas of Responsibilities.
