Professional Development Goals

Upon completion of graduate school, I have acquired more insight into the many facets of health education and health promotion. I have been encouraged to critically think about the larger issues in health education such as those on a global scale. I have also become more compassionate as I have realized that achieving optimal health and well-being is not always easy for everyone. As I eventually enter the role as a health education and health promotion specialist, I will use the tools learned throughout my graduate career to help practice effectively within the framework of the NCHEC Seven Areas of Responsibility. As I am far from having experience in all competencies and sub-competencies, I have identified the three major areas in which I need improvement in and several areas in which I have excelled. 

 

Areas for Improvement:

 

Area III: Implement Health Education/Promotion

             3.1 Coordinate logistics necessary to implement plan

Area V: Administer and Manage Health Education/Promotion

             5.1 Manage financial resources for health education/promotion programs

Area VII: Communicate, Promote, and Advocate for Health, Health Education/Promotion, and the Profession

             7.2 Engage in advocacy for health and health education/promotion

Area VII: Communicate, Promote, and Advocate for Health, Health Education/Promotion, and the Profession

            7.1 Identify, develop, and deliver messages using a variety of communication strategies, methods, and techniques

My professional goals for the next three years include:

  • Securing a health education internship for the spring semester of 2018 to gain hands-on experience in the field 

  • Graduate May 2018 with a Master's of Science in Health Promotion

  • Continue my studies for the CHES examination which I will take in the latter part of 2018

  • Upon graduating, secure a position within the health field

  • Look to get more involved with the community to eventually become an advocate for important health-related issues
