My Personal Health Philosophy

My philosophy as a health educator is that everyone deserves to be happy and healthy and I want everyone to know that they deserve just that, regardless of income, race, status, gender, or education level. Not only is it my job as a health educator to share information and knowledge about all things health-related, but more so to further empower people that they are worth living a happy and healthy life. It’s important that we also keep in mind the abilities of the less fortunate and culturally diverse by providing support and guidance especially to those who have different religious or cultural views on health or where complete health is not easily achievable.

Furthermore, my role as a health educator is to convert evidence-based and scientific ideas into realistic and optimistic health-related changes and goals that will benefit individuals which will allow them to live up to their God given human potential. I truly believe that self-worth and self-esteem are directly tied into an individual’s health status. Everybody deserves the tools and resources to identify good health practices, the opportunities to make healthy decisions, and the accessibility to reach their personal health-related goals. However, these behaviors, habits, and choices come down to one vital factor which is the individual. When individuals can apply critical thinking skills, they acquire a true understanding of what they do, why they do it, and how those behaviors have impacted their life. It is then that they can see the weight of their actions and decisions, and want to make personal health changes that stimulate personal satisfaction. This cognitive behavioral approach influences health-related and lifestyle changes among people by integrating thought processes with chosen behavior(s) affecting the individual as a whole.

As a health educator, I view health as a holistic approach which focuses on the whole person, encompassing the physical, mental, spiritual, and social well-being of an individual. These four aspects that make up an individual’s overall health and well-being must be in alignment to work together in harmony to achieve optimal health and wellness. Synchronizing these four aspects of health, requires critical and creative thinking skills in order for individuals to reach their full potential, and it is my job to provide the tools and platform on which people can apply these thinking skills to come to recognize the necessary changes to be made. This dynamic process encourages the individual to be honest and true to themselves; with the hopes of inspiring them to make positive changes in their lives because they believe they are worth it.
